Knock out the work. Overcoming big projects like that are the sorts of confidence and self-esteem building events which make us better people. Always schedule work first and play after -- but make sure you play after.
ETA: I'm editing to add that the only time I disagree with this thinking is when I know that I'll be appreciably less efficient if I keep working v. working in the morning. You should be able to determine that for yourself, but I know there are times that if I stay up working it will take me twice as long as if i just go to bed and work early in the morning. So, in that case I would skip the booze and the book and just go to bed, taking the gained time in sleep.
