Things are looking MUCH better in terms of honey production. Last year we started May with a new packet of bees, the old hive having died in April. This year we've already got capped brood and drawn comb, so we're already a month ahead. Last year it rained ALL of June and we got essentially no honey: we didn't even borrow an extractor, just dripped some into a bucket for our own use.
If it doesn't rain we should get some this year, I think, enough to sell.
There's an apiary a few towns over from me that takes orders in the winter and then drives down to Georgia or Florida (I forget which) to get packets in April. I ordered packets from them the last two winters. The first year I was taking a beekeeping course with Small Boy (that somehow ended up being almost entirely B's chore) and the second winter we were attempting to expand to two hives, but then the first unexpectedly died in April and we were left with just the new packet
