Winter coming

The leaves are at peak color right now.  I'm craving a bright sunny warm Indian Summer Day, but have to make do with a bizarre early fall snow storm with lazy fluffy (yet frequent) snowflakes swirling around among the red sugar maple leaves.  It was a beautiful walk to school today, with Small Boy sticking out his tongue and experimenting with ( Read more... )

I know you northerners are tired of me saying so, but I'm jealous! The fall snow sounds beautiful and peaceful. Wish we had some here.

My rule of thumb: if it's the kind of debt you can reasonably pay off within the next 6-9 months and eliminate a payment, reducing your total cost of living, pay the debt. If it's just going to take a few months off a 15 year mortgage, convert that paper to wood.

we don't need more wood. We *do* need to spend about $500 on the Civic for maintenance in the very near future. Plus a plow for our new truck! :-)

I was going to say buy wood -- because if you have the space it's always a good idea to give wood a lot of time to dry. Most of the "dry" wood you buy around here isn't really that great... If I had room to store more than I use in a year, I would. Stupid swampy back yard that's down a very steep hill.

But a plow! Oh, if you guys had a plow!! Now *that* would be awesome. I vote plow.

Garden #2 also has turnip greens, kale and swiss chard.  (I can hear the children groaning from here.)

I'd kill for greens.

I want a little plow for my Cub Cadet just to do my own driveway.

As a stockpiler of things I already have plenty of, I'd normally tell you to buy the wood. However, you have two years' worth, at least. I'd say either pay off some debt, or tuck the monies under the mattress.

Or maybe buy a new gun.

Or... well, you could always increase your food stores (which is what I'd do w/ it), and water stores (which is what I need to do).
