Stepping into the same river twice

I went to the gym to run today on the dreadmill, setting my iPod to random.  The songs that came up were about rivers, and one of them, from Joni Mitchell's Blue album, brought back a memory with an almost visceral punch.  "I wish I had a river / I could skate away on" made me remember a perfect moment of skating on Evan's creek (a small river that ( Read more... )

Last winter my friend and I went skating on one of the big ponds nearby. There was a big snow storm predicted to start the next day and we might not get another chance. The January thaw had refrozen and the ice was like a black mirror. We didn't get there until after three but as we skated, the sun was going down on one side of the pond while the full moon rose on the other side.

I knew that if I never skated again, that day would be enough.

Hey, it's nice that you still come by here. I was thinking about poking into ASD but I'm not sure I even have a usenet reader anymore. I'd have to visit google groups or something! (LOL, I wonder how many people still know about usenet?)

I love it when that happens. As a whole I dislike nostalgia, but I like being reminded of pleasant memories like that, especially ones that have to do with nature.

On a similar note, I had deja vu this evening. It wasn't deja vu of an actual moment, but rather, a dream I had a long time ago. In the dream, I had a little girl. :)
