Charitable deductions

Yesterday in the gym the director of the YMCA asked me how people are handling the changes to charitable deductions. I had to share my despair. I agree. It is an excellent idea. The notion that putting money away for retirement should be right off GI (in effect, sending money to a future, elderly retired or disabled person so the public might be less burdened) but moneys given to a charity that, say, does pretty much the same thing right now shouldn't be... is really off-kilter. You really put it in focus.

I submitted this to Jim McGovern, Ed Markey, Elizabeth Warren (my congresscritters) and also Chuck Grassley just for grins and chuckles.

Then I submitted it to Forbes for publication.

Then condensed it down to less than 142 characters and put it on Facebook with some graphics, and on Twitter with some hashtags #CharitableContributions and "TaxReform".

Because self-actualized, yo.
