I understand.

I quite often don't want to drink and purposefully take my car so I have an excuse. People don't seem to understand that I just don't want to drink that night, and the only 'excuse' people seem to listen to is that I have to drive.

I quite often drive to the Valley (from the city!) just so I have a reason not to drink. Plus the bonus is that I get to drive all the drunken yobs home at the end of the night. I'm sure the appreciate it...

Offer the reason a health kick if you feel you need to give any reason at all. Which, you don't.

I respect anyone who has beliefs and is willing to stick to them regardless of what other people think or it's against the "norm".

Good for you!

I'm off the drink as of lastnight and when I went to the pub today for the melbourne cup and refused booze I was looked at as an outcast. I don't understand why, if you refuse alcohol these days, you are seen as some sort of subhuman scum. And your mates just wont listen and next thing you know there's a beer in front of you. Then you politely say thanks and refuse and they get the shits, without them even considering the facts of why you don't want a fucking drink.

It's "un-oztrayl-yun" not to have a drink... we must not have got the memo.

That's all good. I hardly drink at all (the occasional glass o' red with dinner, the occasional swiss absinthe session in our dining room on Saturdays, the odd cider or three when I'm out...rarely), and I'm happier and healthier for it. When I lived in Sydney I pubbed four days out of seven, and was a lot poorer, fatter and more depressed, Simon Pegg stylez. I don't need booze to be a rude, cold bastard :D

Just enjoy your awareness and possess it, and it will enjoy and possess you. Social convention is for lab rats.
