ATTN: People who live in cold cold places!

So like, when I go study abroad in Japan next year, it will probably snow. And uh. I live in Southern California.

...WHAT SHOULD I WEAR. O_O()()()

I like to wear a long sleeved shirt under a t-shirt. It's comfortable, and pretty nice for cooler weather. Of course, there's scarves, winter coats, mittens, and hats. And also...

DO NOT WEAR SHORTS IN WINTER. IT IS DUMB. kthxbye :P

Er... jackets and long pants...?

Honestly, I've learned a little trick to getting by in the supra-cold, windy winters. Take a pair of of flannel pajama pants... and wear them underneath your regular pants. (This really only works if you wear baggy pants.) Works to keep the cold off like a charm. Layering like hell helps a lot, too. Undershirt-long sleeve shirt-t-shirt-hoodie. Also, invest in a HAT THAT COVERS YOUR EARS. Seriously, earflaps are a godsend. (And you'd look hella cute in an earflap hat anyway.)

It's currently freeze-your-ass-off cold up here, but I'm still wearing my trenchcoat as a winter jacket. Maybe I shouldn't be giving you clothing advice. :o

But I will anyway! As others have said, layers. Two shirts if it's cold enough to warrant it (I usually either wear a turtleneck sweater or a long-sleeved shirt under a t-shirt on cold days). A scarf does WONDERS for trapping in heat/protecting your face from cold. Invest in a tuque to prevent the precious heat from escaping your head!

Oh, and warm socks! Very comfy. Heee, I feel like I'm preparing to send you out to play in a snowstorm rather than just to somewhere chilly. X3

Snow? How pretty. :D I live in Chicago and the weather fluctuates like crazy over here. One day it's 50 degrees, the next day it's below 20... so on and so forth. >_Thermal (underwear) works as an underlayer, depending on how thick your clothes are to start with. I don't personally wear thermals but I do layer my tops. A good jacket is a must... If you're going to skip out on costs anywhere, I don't suggest there - especially if you're going to walk around a lot. Someone said Columbia jackets which are good, the heavier North Face are good too... not just the popular Denali zipper fleece - popular and trendy around here I guess, but IMO cuz the sleeves are fleece, the wind STILL goes through! What's the point of that? Other options could be a jacket that cuts the wind but is still designed to be warm. I purchased one similar to the North Face's APEX jacket... it looks good and is fairly warm ( ... )

LAYERS. T-shirt, something with long sleeves, then a sweatshirt, then a coat. Add scarf, hat, gloves = warm. I have never really found the need for snow boots because it's a hassle - once you get from home to wherever you have to change into normal shoes and it gets annoying. But if there's a lot of snow then keep some in your car anyway because wet sneakers are aweful.
