speaking about child brides

In my last post I brought up something that I found a bit odd, and desipite the desires and customs of different cultures - which do deserve to be taken into consideraton, I still hold by my belief that if your in a forien land...you obey the primary laws and customs of that land.

Do you mean here in America, as in - if a family from another country moves here, they shouldn't try to marry off their underage daughters? I agree with that. If that's not what you mean I think a lot of human rights organizations would disagree with this. I don't think it's OK in any country. It's not necessary anymore. Groups and organizations have been working for years to try to give young women from poorer countries educational options so they don't have to get married off at a young age. The idea that every woman has a choice should be a universal ideal.

Kind of off topic, but I recommend reading the book "Virgin: The Untouched History" by Hanne Blank - it came out recently and it's very good.

Edit: Ah, I just read the Newsweek article.
