In the human mind a complete change can take a long time. Losing a loved one, for instance, results in months of mental adjustments. This is not like doing a file change on a computer.

excellent points, I find this topic fascinating.
I think there are many levels of belief, more than just these two. Belief is very hard to define, both philosophically and psychologically.
