Guriel's doing everything he can, and so are Rachmiel and Zethel and the rest of the family, but it's still exhausting work, and Guriel still feels like the greatest part of the burden rests on his shoulders. Not that he's complaining, not that he thinks it's anything but what he deserves, but -- it's still exhausting.
And he can't let anyone see how much. Not Zethel, who has to take care of Ben and the others. Not Rachmiel, who Guriel's already hurt so terribly once before. Certainly not Ben, who is fragile and cracked and hurting.
There's nobody. So he locks it down deep, deep in his heart, puts up walls that he thought were gone for good, hides his hurt and his exhaustion and his anger again. It's not the best scenario for healing himself, but then, Guriel is the last person on Guriel's mind.
