"Guppy, this is Dr Gary Bale, he'll be taking over your role when you leave us next Monday."
Guppy looks up at the new arrival and smiles. The guy is very good looking, and looks organised and professional.
"Hi Gary, welcome to St James'."
The man looks at him and just nods, with little interest.
"You're the one who can't take the pace eh?" he says to Guppy with a smirk, as soon as Holly is gone. Guppy glares at him, then stands up and discovers that the man is only about five foot four.
"I'll take you for a short tour." he says, closing up his paperwork. "Even if we're only going to be working together for a short time, no need to give you the short end of the stick."
"I've worked it out, thank you." Gary return glares. "I'll get on with it."
"Okay then." Unable to resist he adds. "See you shortly."
About ten minutes later he hears raised voices from a nearby cubicle. Motioning to one of the nurses to be ready to call Security, he opens the curtain.
"Is there a problem?"
"Yeah." the patient yells. "This stupid bastard is trying to send me home when I'm dying!"
"I'll handle this." Gary replies, glaring back at Guppy. "Sir, you are drunk and have indigestion, take note and stop wasting everyone's time."
Guppy groans as the patient leaps off the bed to headbutt the new doctor, waves at the nurse to get Security, then drags the man off in a moderate to firm arm lock.
"Look, there's two ways this can go. You can struggle, and the big guys from Security will haul you out and hold you for the police. Or you can accept Dr Bale's diagnosis, go home and sleep this off. Which is is going to be?"
Security arrive as the man decides not to carry on fighting, and Guppy offers his successor a hand up.
"Just so you know, I can take the pace. I'm just choosing to make a difference somewhere else."
