Okay, I use PSP 8...

and I get all of it, except this step:
Effects --> noise --> texture preserving smooth

I can't find 'noise' when I go to effects, does anyone know where I can find it?

Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Texture Preserving Smooth

I found that sharpening the merged image and then fading the sharpen to 50% and setting it on soft light gave a very similar effect.
