Butterflies

At my birthday party, I got a book, Butterflies of Oklahoma, Kansas, and North Texas, published in 2004. It's an awesome book, and it has distribution maps showing the counties for which they have records of the species. I've been going through my butterfly pics, and I've already found two species that I've photographed in counties for which they ( Read more... )

That's really cool. It also gives us the opportunity to see your beautiful pics again! :-)

I'm glad you like them. I don't think I've posted the second one before because I had to upload it.

*blushes* I would not profess to remembering the different buggies and birdies you photograph and share with us. Pretty much, my brain says "pretty!" and that's it. *utterly useless in identifying animals, plants, etc. and full aware of it*

I wouldn't expect you to remember it, even if I had posted it before. I was just sayin... :)

Oooo the pretties! :) (And yes, you should contact the editors/publishers/photographers so in future editions they could do an edit.)

So you had fun at the party, yes? :)

Pretty butterflies.

A bird person here said they are getting birds that they normally don't get. (Climate change). I wonder if the butterflies are moving about as well?

I'm sure they are. I haven't seen the bordered patches in my yard in two years, so I suspect I caught them during an unusual year. As I recall, that was the summer of terrible drought, so they may have been moving out of their usual range to find food.

Thanks L! The photos are fantastic. The flowers are gorgeous.

How do you get such lovely close up shots? What kind of a camera are you using? Are you using a zoom lens?

I have a Sony digital cybershot DSC-F828. It has a macro setting on it that I use for the really close shots. I use the zoom on shots that are more distant. A lot of patience and standing around without moving is also required. :)

Nice pics. The book sounds cool. You might check out dragonflies too. When e-moon60.stayed with us she pointed out several species of them in our backyard. I was amazed by their diversity. Anway she has lots of pictures of all sorts of critters (including butterflies and dragonflies) on her land north of Austin.

Funny how you can start out watching birds, then branch out to watch other creatures, butterflies, dragonflies, bats, cacti, and bobcats. OK cacti aren't creatures, exactly, but you do have to be careful around Jumping Cholla, or any cholla for that matter. Teddy Bear Cholla are by no means cuddly.

Oh, thanks for the link! Those are great shots. I've been enjoying her blog, which I found through you. :)

So, when are you going to start photographing the wildlife in your new yard?
