look, it's been an entire year and this is just 3,500 words! (many of them about hockey.)

Hellooooo, livejournal! If I waited five days, it will have been a full year since I posted! Which is annoying because I really should have done a US Open write-up like I did once before, because i'll want that. I'll just summarize: awesome time at the US Open last September! XDD I finally got to ( Read more... )

Fire in Babylon is SO GREAT!!! Really I'm in the 1980s West Indies Cricket Fandom... not that there is one. Although I'm madly in love with Viv Richards and got his autobiography and keep making gifs of him and someone has been finding them on twitter and we've tweeted a bit about how hot he is. XDD I've been trying to make it happen on tumblr too haha: http://ambitiouspants.tumblr.com/tagged/cricket

Apart from that, most of my cricket activity is just being really really super excited any time it's mentioned and I'm able to understand the reference/rules. Just being an American who understands cricket makes me feel so special, haha!! I also read the PG Wodehouse books about boys at school playing cricket. XD

Hehe well it's IPL season, that's always good for lols! This year it's all about Chris Gayle and his captain Virat Kohli ;3 Got to love a height difference pairing! ;) The England team has some serious qts too. I'm a little surprised and very disappointed that there's NO fic at all, but that's typical of anything I like lol. I'm such a hipster that way XD

omg I do love height differences... and even though irl I'm so unhipstery, I kind of totally am in fandom. I love liking random people/things that no one else does. XD I will totally have to try to keep track of things in the IPL lol.

Cricket! It is simultaneously the most genteel sport out there in-play, yet the most trash-talking sport I have ever seen debated on the internet. It's kinda frickin' hilarious.

I got into cricket a bit because of an ex-boyfriend who sort of brainwashed me into it by watching endless test matches, with couch cuddles as my reward for watching. At first I totally thought it was a made-up sport, like quiddich or something, but it actually has this long, intricate history that inspires American baseball and stuff. Who knew, right?

I should watch this documentary of which you write.

Also, hi, Laura, hi!! :D

Hi, Laura! I don't know what happened to my comment here, I totally didn't delete it... weird. Hopefully this one won't disappear into the aether. (I think my comment was about cricket?)

I got your message -- don't worry, I totally understand about not answering comments fast! I'm only able to read LJ and check e-mails around once a weekish, too!

Just finished up the school year last week, and now I'm seasonally unemployed again for the summer. I'm thinking about teaching overseas again because I miss traveling. What's up with you? :D

I believe it was about cricket trashtalking on the internet, and I was going to say something about sledging - the special word for cricket trashtalking on the pitch! Or field? Green? I've obviously learned only the important terminology. Viv Richards, in the icon used for the post, used to approach cricket like a battle and if you tried sledging him, he would get so fired up that he was unstoppable so captains would tell their team to always be very polite to Viv ( ... )

Oh, right! I just find the cricket trashtalking in forums and such so very, very silly. Sports fans are so obsessively strange sometimes! I have an ex who was into cricket. This one time, we were driving past a footie stadium (in Nottingham, I think, because we were visiting his sister), and the local team had just won and the fans were exuberantly streaming out of the stadium and this one guy reached into the car and kissed me. Had my ex mumbling about football hooligans and how much more civilized cricket fans were for MONTHS, completely un-ironically, which was silly since I'd totally seen him cussing and yelling at cricket matches (which he Stockholm Syndrome'd me into enjoying, too, somehow). lol ( ... )
