banana peel

I know the mushy part of banana, the part humans eat, is high in phosphorus and therefore should be given to piggies only in moderation.

Bobbi has recently decided she likes banana PEEL. Anyone know whether that's OK nutritionally?

Thanks.

Banana peel should be okay, but in moderation as I'd still consider it in the fruit category.

I would make sure it's organic juuuuuuuust to be safe. Inorganic fruits with peel are often sprayed with pesticides and exposed to animal feces and other things like that, harvesters don't worry about this as much because they figure no one will eat the peel. If nothing else make sure you clean it well.

Seconded, but I urge you to wash thoroughly even if it is organic produce. Organic fruits and veggies, while free of pesticides, can still be dusted with things you don't want you or your pets to ingest, like manure and naturally-occurring salmonella and the germs of the people who handled it and whatever was on the floor of the health food store where the employees dropped it and then put it back on the display. Yeah, I used to work in a health food store. >_>
