Can you tell that this is not a government post?

I have been watching some TED talks lately & thought I would share.  If you only have time to listen to one, listen to the mushroom one.  The guy seems to think these mushrooms are little gods, but by the end he'll convince you why he thinks so.

Economy!

The mushroom thing was interesting. The first seven or eight minutes really bugged me, because he just made sensational claims with nothing to back them up. (Like mushrooms were the first internet, what?) But it does seem like a sensible ecological device, and I'm thinking of trying to get one of those life boxes now.

Yeah, he spends a bit of time making you think that he's batshit crazy, but once you get past that, the little plant is pretty amazing- as you have seen. I was really impressed with its effect on the oil spill pile. I remember hearing something about they used hair mats with spores in them to treat some massive oil spills, but he didn't touch on that at all. When I get my new place, I want to use a life box to start my herb garden. And I think the idea of it as a ant killer is great too, but he could have not spent so long on the picture of the ant with the mushroom growing out of its head.
