It said something that this year Jim had kicked up a minimal fuss about Christmas. Oh, he had bitched and whined and complained, but he hadn't actually told Blair to take anything down and he had helped him with the lights when it was just a bit too high for his smaller guide to reach.

He had already sorted out Blair's present a week ago and left it wrapped and hidden out of sight. So he went out and killed time at work finishing reports and signing off on things until he was welcome back at the loft for whatever Blair had planned.

He came back shortly after dinner would normally start, knocking on the door and leaning in the doorway. "Sandburg?"

He looked nervous, wiping his hands on his jeans.

"What's traditional for a Jewish born, neo-pagan raised shaman and a vaguely atheistic cop? I only started on the Christmas thing when you moved in." Though, big step up from previous years, Jim has sent cards to his father and brother and not thrown out the cards he got in return.

He hung up his coat and dropped his keys into the bowl. "It smells good. You used the fresh basil?"

"I suspect eggplant,' he teased with a grin. "But then you always complain about that. I'm not celebrating Christmas to be religious. I'm doing so to give you a gift. And to receive one,' he added with a laugh.

Blair nodded. "Always. Most couldn't taste the difference,' he added with a grin.
