Indeed, if there is such a solid ground to stand upon, it can only be found at the end of our project, not the beginning.
I think that's the thing I like about Hegel is the eschatological nature of his philosophy. Science is still something that has 'come on the scene' and 'is in itself an appearance: in coming on the scene it is not yet Science in its developed and unfolded truth (emphasis mine)'. Something about that has always rang true for me, though I'm still perplexed as to whether Hegel felt we had reached this epoch now. I've read he saw Napoleon as the historical symbol of the ushering in of this epoch, but I haven't read enough of him to know if that is the case or if the individual still has a ways to go for Absolute Knowledge.
