Medical Woes

I have a fun story to tell. Really.
So last Wednesday during practice, I managed to pull my upper hamstring.  I took a step and went hmm, that hurt.  So I went back to repeat the step and basically fell over as pain shot through my body, and went oh... that hurt more.  Unable to dance and barely able to walk, I hobbled home on what seemed like the ( Read more... )

Hmm... I'm glad Morgan and anonymous couple gave you good advice.

I think you can skip the elevation and just do rest, ice, and compression. =)

Hope they get you back in this week! Massage is also something that can help, depending on the injury. It's something the Tang PT people seem to undervalue, but my chiropractor (who practiced "active release technique") made extensive use of. My hips are rotated in a weird way too -- they kept asking me if I had had some sort of injury as a kid that would have started the imbalance, to which I replied, "well, nothing major like a broken bone, but all sorts of minor stuff ..." I've always been able to balance better on my left foot than my right, though, as far back as I can remember, so I guess it's been around for a while. It takes some time to "retrain" the muscles to hold your body in a different way, so be patient!

My sage, but not especially helpful advice, do everything they tell you early.
I had a mildly strained hamstring for years, eventually (when I did all the stuff I was supposed to do, it got better.

Your socket has probably been out of whack for a long time - all sorts of things can be mildly wrong (say badly formed vertebrae) and then bang - all broken and in pain later.

Hope you get better enough for competitions!
