I have been learning a lot about myself mentally and physically since i set my sights on a marathon. I have also learned that people will try and bring you down more so than they will try and lift you up. I have learned that's because people dont want to have to feel bad about not challenging themselves so rather than lift themselves its easier to ( Read more... )

It is interesting what you say about people trying to bring you down because it is often so true. I'm always perplexed by it because whenever anyone tells me that they are changing their lives/challenging themselves/trying new things, especially when it is making a change towards a more healthy/active lifestyle I feel like a cheerleader for them.

When I started running I had two separate people kind of sneer when I told them and told me about how their SO's were runners and how it was such a pain in the ass because they were so obsessed and they wanted to run *multiple* times a week. Oh heaven forbid. (As a side, one of them qualified and ran the Boston Marathon which to me sounds amazing) Anyway, I found it odd that instead of being happy for me that I was trying something new and challenging myself physically they projected their negative feelings onto me.

It's weird because it's not like i said, hey everyone i am gonna try heroin and see if i can't make a real go of being addicted to it and them i'm gonna try and get pregnant and stuff up someone elses life too, hope you'll all be there for me. They dont even have to be involved in my running, i am not asking them to come with me, or cheer me on at the finish line. People are crazy, i have stopped talking about it to people who are negative. I have found some really positive people, such as my awesome trainer who are well an truly supportie and positive.
