A Little Blue House, Paris, Kentucky | Tuesday Night

May 03, 2011 18:47

Rose sat on the porch of a little blue house in Paris, Kentucky and tried to tally up where to go next. In the house there was one wanted criminal - two if one counted her, two who’d been turned back from Strigoi, a nearly insane old Spirit user, and Kyle. Who really seemed to be forced to deal with her world at its most crazy ( Read more... )

Eventually, Dimitri sought Rose out, hoping to trade places and get her some much-needed rest now that he'd spent a little time talking with Sonya. The transformation was still amazing to him. To think that was what it had been like with him, the flash of light and magic and...life.

It left Dimitri with plenty to think about.

"Go rest," he suggested gently, taking a seat beside her.

The things Dimitri would give for it to really be that easy. "And what do you say?" He might as well hear what her suggestion would be for his problems.

Her hand tightened on his as she cast about desperately for some answer that would make it better. "I guess - you have to just keep living. Keep doing the things a Strigoi wouldn't." She looked down at their hands and the gentleness there. "Like protecting Sonya."

Dimitri looked down, unsure what protecting Sonya was about. "You say that, but we've run so much from everything and still I cannot manage to escape."

Glad she was still looking at their hands, Rose winced at the surge of guilt for making him run, making him react to all the warrior instincts he still had when maybe he should be trying to ignore them a little. "Pretty sure it was you who taught me you can't outrun your problems and issues and stuff," she said.

He nodded, knowing she was probably right. "I want to go back and be that person," he told her, somehow knowing it was never going to happen.

God, didn't she wish that too. Rose squeezed his hand and turned her face back up to him. "You can still be you," she pointed out, completely believing that to be true. "I know you're still you."

"You really believe that, don't you?" Dimitri asked, meeting her eyes and wondering how he deserved to even be in the same room as this woman.

Rose nodded, not sure why he didn't believe her. "Always," she murmured, her eyes falling to his lips, so close for once.

They were already holding hands as they sat in the starlight. She couldn't - or didn't want to make herself - stop as she leaned up to press her lips against his.

She couldn't possibly expect him to pull away from that and there was Dimitri, suddenly finding himself kissing Rose and reaching up to touch her insanely beautiful hair.

She wasn't letting him go now that she finally got to feel his warm, soft lips against hers. Reaching up, Rose twisted her fingers into the lapel of his duster, keeping him close as she deepened the kiss, trying to reassure him and tell him how much she loved him all at once.

Was he even allowed to be doing this? There was something about the way Rose tugged on his jacket that told him yes, he could do this. And he could do this right, pressing closer and kissing her so gently there could be no doubt in her mind that it was him and not the monster from the last time they'd been this close.

In fact if he stopped doing this, she would be pretty upset. Rose would have laughed at him for being so soft with her if it hadn't been obvious why he was. But he didn't need to prove he wasn't a monster, it was clear in his every word and action, every time his dark brown eyes rested on her without an expectation of ownership.

On the other hand, if that was what let him keep kissing her, Rose would take every second of it, as she tried to press in closer against him.

Dimitri would never presume to own Rose, though as the one person in the world he loved, he was slightly over protective of her. Perhaps due to an understandable fear of losing her after everything they'd been through in the last year.

But while he kissed her, it was difficult to think about anything beyond just Rose, leaving Dimitri like putty in her hands and nowhere near stopping.

They didn't - have to stop, right? They could just keep kissing and forget about everyone in the house and their responsibility, and...no, okay, eventually they'd have to. Just not yet.

Her hands slipped up into his hair, tugging out that always loose hair tie so his silky hair could tangle with her fingers. Rose didn't know how she could have ever thought kissing him as a Strigoi was anything like the warm, responsive Dimitri he'd always been.

Eventually always came too soon, but when Dimitri pulled back, he did so slowly, not wanting to startle Rose or make her think he was pulling away in some permanent manner like he might have had she tried this a few weeks back.

Looking down at her, he really didn't know if it was smart to have kissed her like that, but Dimitri was positive he didn't want to take it back.
