"Watch," Dimitri had said during the meeting. "Change is happening before your eyes." At the time, Rose had thought he was just trying to keep her quiet, but he'd been right.
The debate over whether or not to go after the Strigoi had raged between the guardians until Rose was almost despairing. They had the information. They knew where the Strigoi were. How was it not obvious they had to go after them?
But slowly, slowly, the tide of the debate had turned. The guardians were angry. There were only a few safe havens in their society - the royal Court and the academies, it was why the school year was so long, why Moroi and dhampir families alike endured long separations from their children. And this Strigoi attack had destroyed that illusion of safety, and now the guardians wanted their own back.
And then Rose's mom stood up to argue for taking some of the senior novices - and some of the adult Moroi - to help bolster their numbers and give the fighters more of an edge. Rose's feelings towards her mom were almost never simple, but in that moment, she was filled with pure admiration and pride for her urging to change the way they all fought.
The feeling only lasted so long before Rose's impatience and frustration boiled over again. They were going to wait four hours before heading out after the Strigoi. In four hours, more of their captives could be dead or turned. She hated it. She knew they had to wait for the reinforcements but it felt like she was sitting there helplessly, and her temper was just about to snap over it.
