The testing of the novices had been going well. Dimitri had participated in a number of surprise assaults and while he had effectively 'killed' a number of novices in his role as 'Strigoi,' the students had been taking their roles seriously and attacked him without mercy

Her brain still felt muddled from the meeting with Deirdre earlier, and Rose really just wanted to go to sleep if she wasn't even going to be able to actually be tested by the guardians. Instead she was sent to the gym to grab some supplies for one of the guardians she didn't know very well. She couldn't help but feel like she was just being gotten out of the way.

Which was why she was so surprised to see Dimitri there - and ever more surprised to see him actually looking hurt. "Hey Dimitri," she called across the gym, reminding herself that they were at St. Vlad's. "You know you're freaking bleeding to death, right?"

Dimitri looked over at her, absentmindedly touching his cheek, surprised by the bit of blood he felt there. "I wouldn't go quite that far. It's nothing." In fact, he'd not noticed it at all until she said something.

"Yeah, right up until you get an infection," she argued, frowning at him and wondering how he hadn't even noticed.

She sounded like him. It was strange to say the least, but helped him reply obstinately, "You know that's not likely."
