A message in red pen is quick to appear, in handwriting that's neat but not as dry as one with a passing acquaintance with the writer might expect.

"We suspect everyone has been as unhappy as we to be sent out distressingly unequipped into mortal peril, mystery, and/or strange nonsense. As you know, we have been endeavoring to correct the ( Read more... )

Jack nodded. "I understand. But you have to look out for yourself, too."

He took a breath and looked around. "Come on. Let's go out. Get something to eat."

She smiled back at him. "I'd like that." Martha tucked the scanner into her pocket and grabbed a jacket to pull over her tank top.

"I think we should make banana milkshakes. I haven't had one of those in ages."

Jack smiled. "I'd like that," he told her, offering her his arm.

They walked in silence for a moment or two before Martha remembered her newest acquaintance. "I met someone the other day. Someone who wasn't connected to the Doctor in any way," she clarified. "Which I found odd considering everyone else here minus Ianto has traveled here and Ianto is on your team from home so... connected."

They were in the hallways. Martha spoke of Ianto in purely professional terms, mindful of the fact that the Master could be behind any corner.

"What, he doesn't have a connection to the Doctor at all?" Jack asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Didn't seem like it. He doesn't know who the Doctor is."

"Weird," Jack agreed. "At least Ianto was connected peripherally. As much as I don't want him here, it made a kind of sense."

"That's what I thought. All I know is he's from the moon. And he likes libraries."

"... From the moon?"

"Yep. But I've been to the moon, and there was no one there. So he's from either a different universe or the future."

"At least a hundred years after your time, if there's a lunar colony," Jack told her. He thought about that a moment. "Does he have any special skills? What did the Guardians bring him here for?"

Martha shrugged"We didn't talk much. I showd him the library and then he sort of got lost in the books. His name's Loran."

"I don't recognize that name as being from anywhere in particular," Jack admitted. "Well. If I see him, I'll have to ask."

Martha shrugged. "Just thought you'd like to know other people on the TARDIS."

They arrived at a kitchen right around then and Martha smiled. "I think some tea is in order. Though I apologize in advance for being rubbish compared to Ianto at tea-making," she confessed as she filled a kettle with water and prepared some loose green tea leaves she found in a cabinet.

Jack chuckled. "Don't worry. He uses alchemy or voodoo or something. I don't expect people to be him."

He sat down at the table.

"I like normal tea."

"Good, because I haven't made my sacrifice to the tea gods lately," Martha grinned. She leaned against the counter while she waited for the kettle to whistle. "And how are you?"
