Why must museums close so early?

Jun 22, 2009 15:46

I'm going to Cardiff for two days, which I will mostly spend out of the city on tours that come back around 5:30. The Red Dragon Centre, where they have a Doctor Who exhibition, closes at 6:30 and it's at the very least a 20 minute walk from the tour's drop off point. At times like this I really wish I could run. I might beg the driver if it might ( Read more... )

Hee. Your icon makes me think of Peter having a very serious conversation with either a pigeon or a duck. (Sample conversation: "Stop eating people’s old French fries, pigeon. Have some self respect! Don’t you know you can fly?"). I should probably watch less 30 Rock.

Anyway! I do think you have a point about taking advantage of the chance to go to places like Budapest right now, but it always makes me feel so grim when people assume they'll never be able to travel again. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, in a lot of ways. So enjoy Cardiff and its early-closing museums, and Budapest and its city-splitting river and hilarious name (that may just be to me), but keep in mind places you'd like to see again, in the future. And don't rush too much in either place, because you never really enjoy things like that.

*snort* Oh, Tracy and his craziness.

I'm going to Budapest, aren't I? Oh crap. That means I'm going to have to be in the library from morning to evening when I am in London, I only have very specific things to seek out now, I think. It shouldn't take that long. The thing is I have this huge desire to go to all these places now before my knees decide that they don't like me anymore (we have really bad knees in my family) and since I'm compulsive to begin with it leads to me spending huge amounts of money. And I'm not even going to Iceland, which has been at the top of my list for years. So the list of "to go" places is still humongous. And maybe I feel a little competitive with my nephew, who went for two months to Japan and China and even made it to Mongolia. I begged him to stuff me in the suitcase, but he didn't listen.

Hee. The weird thing is, I could almost hear Claude saying that to Peter. If he called him "pigeon" instead of "poodle", I suppose.

Woo! I have a shirt from Budapest but have never been. I haven't been any further east then Berlin, now that I think about it. But when you travel, all your pains and aches disappear! Okay maybe not. But really, what else is there that's worth spending money on? Food? Bah! Better to spend it on making good memories, right?

*laughs* It would appropriate considering the flying.

I haven't been to continental Europe at all, which is very odd for someone who lives in the UK (some people have gotten a funny look on their face when I tell them before they remember where I'm from and that I've had zero time since I've been there). I mean, Londoners go to Paris fro the weekend as cheap, quick getaway. Paris! Puerto Ricans go to Florida. I am not, however, going to Paris, for which I'm sure I'm going to get lots of people asking me why I didn't go there.

That's what I'm thinking. But I am so going to need a 20 hour nap when I get back from all that.

I am such a geek.

There is nothing wrong with that. Especially when one is in Cardiff. It's almost a rule.

I so envy you right now, being able to travel.

Can you believe that I almost didn't go to Cardiff? And the reason I decided to go wasn't even related to Doctor Who. It was to see the countryside. But then am like, wait a minute. I could go to that Stadium. And stand where the Tardis stood. Now I wish I were staying for a day longer, but there is this thesis thing I have to do, plus moving back. But I am so going into that exhibition even if it's only for 15 minutes.

I'm trying to squeeze so much in now because I don't know when I'll next have the chance what with the future undetermined job and all. But it sucks not being able to go anywhere. Before I got mom's insurance money, I couldn't really move around much, either.

I'm only going to be there for two afternoons, really, but I'm walking around as much as possible.
