Dude, I don't need to be any more afraid of bedbugs than I already am!

I saw that report on the benches a while ago, but it still seems more like an unsubstantiated rumor at this point. Even so, I will stand more often than not. Those benches probably have other unsavory things anyway.

The whole reason I found out about this was that my friend Sari, who lives in Park Slope, had an exterminator sweep her apartment building over a possible bedbug infestation. And he told her that the MTA had called him in to consult on bedbugs in the benches, and how to get the damn things out.

His answer? Burn the benches and put in plastic ones.

Oy.

OK, that sounds like a reasonable confirmation to me. I think I'll be sure to stand from now on. I sure hope they figure something out to resolve this.
