So something has been bugging me for awhile now and I’ve only just put my finger on what it is. In Jared/Jensen RPF, why is Jensen ALWAYS the out and proud, comfortable with his sexuality one? And Jared is ALWAYS the naïve younger man who is “straight but having uncomfortable feelings”. Why is that?
I know this is probably because I’m mostly

I know that there ARE fics out there that are the other way around, but it just seems like the trend at the moment, you know?

I think it does have a lot to do with the age thing. Jensen is older and has had longer to come to terms with who he is. Especially in high school/college AUs that keep their ages accurate. For a lot of people, though, it's just how they see the story playing out. If they have Sandy in the picture at the beginning, it makes sense. Or maybe it's the person whose POV they write from.
Now you have me thinking about it because I'm just about to start my own college AU. Hmmmm....

I think it bugs me because of the age thing actually. Like just because Jared is younger he's not comfortable with his sexuality. But then he meets Jensen and BAM! Big gay love. And it's not that cut and dried in real life so I don't think it should be in fic either. Because it's not like it's unrealistic for Jared to "convert" Jensen if Jensen can "convert" Jared.
Maybe this is why I loved your ficmixes so much! Because it has the boys the other way around!

Ok, I'll just have to write you something that works that way. There's no converting going on in my college AU. Jared's ambiguous (meaning no one really knows which way he swings) and Jensen is... Well, now that I think about it, I can make it so that Jensen is straight, for the most part. Possibly dating a girl. But he has a crush on Jared and doesn't really understand why. It won't be Jared seducing him, in any way, but more of a mutual attraction that grows. I really need to post my synopsis in my journal or something. Then the reasons would make more sense.

Ambigous is the BEST word for Jared! And your fic sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Eeek! I'm so excited now!
