The test is can you run on the beach with a cat? no. Running on the beach with a dog has to be one of life's most wonderful joys.

...but I was the lounge beneath the umbrella with a book type anyhow, the cat can lounge with me. The dog will get my book wet and get sand all over me.

Dogs are too easily won over.

I think cats are cute (when they're not biting me) but I'm rather allergic so it's hard to maintain a good relationship with them.
