So I've recently become interested in the subject of how the LGBT community views different religions (stereotypes, avoidance, etc), but I am having a hard time finding anything about it. Most of the problem is that most sources are talking about the opposite issue - how religions feel about the LGBT community - so I don't really know how to get ( Read more... )

Honestly, a lot of it probably has to do with how the religion views the LGBT community.

Oh, I understand that connection, I was just wondering if there had actually been any studies done on LGBT opinions of religions as a whole, or how many people changed religions after coming out/realizing they were queer, etc.

I don't know if there has been any systematic study of religion from the queer perspective, actually. I do know that there are some gay religious groups, though. I don't know the names of them and I don't have links at the moment (I'm on my phone), but I know for a fact that there is a gay Mormon group and some gay Christian groups. Probably because the LGBT "community" is really a bunch of overlapping communities, with relatively little holding it together. I don't know of anything, but I doubt there's a cohesive view. I think it would be highly individual

It certainly isn't scientific, and the sample is small, but this community's demographics polls have shown a very high level of atheism/agnosticism. Which makes sense, when you're used to the dominant religion (Christianity) being hostile.

It seems like I remember a fair number of Wiccans/Pagans, too.
