Growing Republican Opposition to a Minnesota Marriage Amendment

Republicans took control of the Minnesota legislature last November, and it didn't take long for a proposed anti-gay marriage amendment to pop up.

It remains to be seen if it will be passed by the legislature and head to the 2012 ballot, but there is growing opposition among Republican legislators, which is a good sign.

Not surprising. Younger Republicans probably aren't as closely linked with the religious right as are the older folks. And, if nothing else, there are going to be some Republicans with enough common sense to realize that they won in 2010 because people were feeling frustrated over economic issues. NOT because of social issues like abortion and gay marriage.

I wonder if, in some of these states where the Republicans have spent so much time on social issues (see all these new abortion restrictions that they are trying to pass) that there might be a backlash from the more moderate voters.
