Traditional Family Values? Like, the husband being the head of then house and the wife and children essentially being his property (ok, sadly, plenty of people would be on board for this one)? Parents deciding who their kids should marry to strengthen their alliances? Oh! Will there be dowries again? And what about the tradition of the local lord getting to deflower the bride as a way of showing his power over the serfs? Will mayors get to do that? And will female mayors get to deflower the grooms? Oh, wait, in traditional society, there would be no women mayors...
Ah.. I live in Arizona, so I'm sort o in the same boat.. I live in Tucson, which is sort of a liberal oasis in the middle of a desert of crazy old racist White people... d-:
because that money couldn't be used for, say... ANYTHING ELSE!?!
seriously? don't we have budget issues in this country?
we couldn't put that money towards fixing roads, or education budgets, or planned parenthood (that's traditional right?), or just any-frickin'-thing else?
no one needs to support straight people in their quest to be straight. i think the frat houses on campus probably have that covered.
LOL even up here in the godless north, most schools already have some sort of Christian center which would likely already support stuff the 'family values' crowd likes.
Yeeeeah... Somehow I don't think this is a problem, unless you're at Texas Atheist Heathen University majoring in Filthy Gay Anal Sex Studies.
I'm pretty sure any college with an LGBT center already has a Newman Center, and a Chabad, and a Koinonia, and a Campus Crusade, and a ($religion) Student Fellowship, and a ($religion) Campus Ministry, etc. My university has 61 recognized religious student organizations. A quick eyeball indicated that probably 60% will fit the "family values" quota.
Now, if they pass a law stating that any college with a "traditional family values" schtick must have an LGBT center...
It's a legal issue - as a public university with government funding, they can't discriminate against any group based on viewpoint, and they can't be more financially supportive of one group because of viewpoint. I'm graduating from law school in a couple weeks and my First Amendment class spent a lot of time on the issues involved with public universities funding groups.
