I have a quibble in the characterization in that Roman Catholic households are not necessarily conservative. I was raised in a very gay-affirming Roman Catholic household and went to Mass weekly in a liberal Catholic parish that never put down people who were gay, or involved in same sex relationships.

I understand that the current official Catholic church hierarchy is very conservative, but not all Catholic households are.

I get your point, and it's valid, but it isn't just the current Catholic hierarchy...it's the Catholic hierarchy, period, for the duration of the Church's existence (although I've heard that there were some pederast popes in the past, so maybe it hasn't always been homophobic).

Another point could be that just as there are liberal, gay-affirming Mormon homes, some of the more anti-gay religious American homes are very Catholic. I dunno. I think we're probably over-analyzing it.

I've learned to NEVER read the comments in a news post online. Not worth the high blood pressure.
