well, why would anyone expect Cox to care about gay people?. Cox is very much in bed with the religious right here in Michigan, and if he were to fire this guy he may be worried about upsetting some of his core supporters should he decide to run for office for something else. And, he does not have much time left as AG because he is term-limited, so he doesn't have a whole lot that is going to motivate him to come down hard on this guy.

I don't think she has the power to actually do much here, and it isn't like her and Cox are on friendly terms with each other.

But Cox also took a shot at Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who posted a Twitter item Thursday saying she would have fired Shirvell

Interesting. So he's a bureaucrat - a prosecutor - not a political appointee, and certainly not one step from being the attorney general.

It's pretty absurd how he's acted. The whole thing is irrational. I wonder if charges of harassment, or cyberstalking, would be appropriate.

They would and those charges would in theory be enough for removal from office under impeachment (need not be elected to face impeachment). The standards officials have to conduct themselves is pretty high. This makes the smallest of infractions that would be nothing in normal civilian life of extreme importance when character and ability perform duties impartially are on on the line.
