This reminded me of my 2nd cousin who works in an Arab country where homosexuality is illegal.

She has a girlfriend and they seem to be quite open about their relationship, to friends & family at least - they post pictures of themselves together and their gay & lesbian friends on Facebook. I'm afraid that one day something will happen to them.

But if they allow blanket asylum, there would be a flood of people making false assertions of homosexuality. His situation may suck, and he may indeed deserve asylum, but it isn't as simple as taking it at face value.

Agreed. This needs to be weighed carefully. But I really hope that it works out for him. :(
