First of all, Dex has not been used in utero before, it was designed to lower the risks of CAH (which in some cases can be life threatening) AFTER birth. It has not been approved for prenatal use which is part of why it's getting all this publicity.

Second, it hardly warrants the amount of attention it's been getting within the GLBT community. We're not talking about the use of dex to prevent lesbianism being used as a mainstream practice, we're talking about one whack-job on a moral mission. We should be far more concerned about the ethical implications of conducting de facto medical research without approval or supervision. For that matter, we should be outraged over Dr New's insistence on "fixing" girls with CAH long before they have any ability to consent. The lesbian and anti-feminist spin is secondary, at best.

I firmly oppose this idea.

I recently asked my heterosexual parent friends that, if they could genetically alter their child's sexuality in the womb so he/she would not turn out gay/lesbian/bi - every one said they would not manipulate their child's genes that way.

It gives me hope for the future.
