The allegation is that he sexually harassed the aide. Sexual harassment is both scandalous and illegal, regardless of the genders of the parties involved.

His statement makes it sound like he's resigning over cursing a blue streak. As someone who has worked in politics for a living for decades, I can tell you for sure that if politicians regularly resigned for that, the halls of Congress would be nigh empty.

As for his views on gay rights, I know he was a co-sponsor of ENDA, and an opponent of DADT, but I don't know where he stood on equal marriage.

The allegation is that he sexually harassed the aide.Not entirely true, Politico reports that "several House aides" anonymously told politico that that he made "unwanted sexual advances". The aides could be lying, Politico's reporters could have misunderstood, or be stretching, or the anonymous report could be completely accurate. You never really know with Politico ( ... )
