McCain pro-choice and for gay marriage / Vermont Senate overwhelmingly passes gay marriage bill

First, a McCain has come out in favor of gay marriage and abortion rights. That is, Meghan McCain, Sen. John McCain's daughter. This, to me, is a symbol of a growing, deeper generational shift in the GOP:

"We have a very big generation gap between me and my father. I was raised in an open-minded home. I was raised a Christian, but I was raised ( Read more... )

I get a Christmas card from the governor and her family every year (from my work on her campaign in 2006). I've been disappointed that two of them haven't had Track in the picture. Alas.

I think Vermont could have easily passed gay marriage earlier; Gov. Dean just had his eyes on the Presidency and couldn't be tagged with being the only governor in the country to approve gay marriage should he have won the primaries.

I love your cynicism. If I, a Republican, had said that I'd have been slammed.

I just found out about this community, like, fifteen minutes ago. Is this one of those places where people are expected to hold the same views about things that aren't gay-related? Because I'm sick of pro-life sites where it's assumed everyone is anti-gay and gay sites where it's assumed everyone is pro-choice.

On the whole this community looks good, so I hope not.

Hey, I founded the community and I'm a gay Republican who considers himself pro-life. So, to answer your question, most certainly not.

There are several us. We're a minority, to be sure, but the vast majority of members appreciate and understand the value of gay Republicans and our contributions, even if they're more liberal themselves.
