I'm curious as to what you guys think of geographic specific posts? That is, advertisements for events in specific areas (many have been from New York City). Are these appropriate or a nuisance? Something you appreciate seeing or a waste of bandwidth? Going on comments, they're largely ignored, but I've long wondered if these are a.) effective or b ( Read more... )

The ads can be kind of annoying, especially when they're "fancy" with bold/coloured text and the like. And since none are ever near my tiny town, they're just worthless posts for me. *shrug*

Those tend to be my thoughts as well, but I try not to be a micromanaging dictator.

I do agree that the 'fancy' ones are annoying. But I don't mind the kind with just plain text and information. As long as they;re behind cuts.

Thanks for pointing it out. My eyes are shot with all of the formatting and didn't notice it. I've fixed it on the user info page.

I'm not a big fan of the event promotions, although I'm willing to tolerate them if they are short/behind a cut. Many of them are crossposted like crazy and it does get annoying to see the same promotion in several different communities.

I like the shorter rules. Sometimes less really is more.

My legal writing professors would be very proud of your destruction of unnecessary words.

As far as the posts, you can't judge by comments because the posts are designed to inform, not stir debate.

When I moderated another comm and had to deal with those posts, I just found that it pissed of the people whose posts I was deleting and was a hassle I didn't need.

I would suggest that, as long as it's not one person doing it obsessively, they're fairly harmless.

Just my $0.02 worth...

Well, as a matter of full disclosure, halogencycle wrote the core. I just changed language and formatting and the like. He was the catalyst.

It needed to be done, it just hadn't been a priority.

Thanks. I kept complaining about how long they were, but I finally decided to actually do something about it, so I wrote a draft last night.
