I watched the Hunger Games movie today. It was kind of a weird experience because the casting for all the leads was off (some of them were too white, all of them were too clean and polished, and some them didn't quite sell it), but all the side characters were absolutely perfect. I loved how they worked Clove's viciousness, Glimmer's flirtiness,

Horray! I'm glad there were a lot of good things about the flick.

Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of things that could and should have been done better or more book-compliantly (the whitewashing of the characters from the Seam was bad enough, but the casting and hair/make-up departments went even further and made Gale look like a well-fed, middle class, Midwestern high school football captain instead of an Appalachian subsistence hunter). But the side characters were all spot-on, and the changes that had to be made for structural/time reasons made sense and got the important points across.

Yeah, but in a more perfect world the kind of stuff you mentioned wouldn't happen. So there's that.
