WTF BEADS!

I seem to have taken up fan beading today. Some of you (okay, maybe all of you) are wondering what I mean by fan beading. I mean I am making jewelry with bead patterns inspired by fictional characters. I'm planning on making fan bracelets inspired by all of the major female characters in ATLA and all the female Hunger Games tributes who got at ( Read more... )

Probably the way you're doing it, without the fandom stuff. "Hey, I've been doing some beading work but I'm not sure I want to go all out and buy wire cutters. Do you know anyone who makes jewelry? I'd love to borrow a pair from someone."

I really like the way you phrased that. It sounds polite and non-oversharey, and it also suggests an opening for a conversation about beading if the other person is interested. Thanks!

No problem! IME, crafters love to share. I can't even count how many times I've gotten a conversation started due to just having my knitting on hand.

Yeah just say you're making jewelry for fun, but you don't want to invest in wire cutters.

Okay. That sounds simple enough.

I can think of a few other characters for whom wire would be a much more appropriate choice, but I haven't committed to them like I've committed to the Wiress bracelet. If I bought wire cutters, I'd have to start on those other series too, just to justify the purchase to myself. Then the next year of my life would be full of "Represent ALL the metal-affiliated characters with wire bracelets!"

Or we could get together at some point and I'll be all "WIRE FUCK YES!" because I'm an oddball who prefers wire.

If I ever feel the need to represent you with jewelry, I will be sure to use wire!
