Joining the Corps: Is anti-female bias universal?

It's not always easy being a non-male Green Lantern fan, and the addition of the rest of the color spectrum to the mythos doesn't necessarily make it easier. These are some of the thoughts that go into planning my Blue Lantern costume:

Ah, I love the various lantern corps in theory. In pratice though...um...yeah. It's kinda why my Surreal Lantern idea is the way it is.

I can't wait to hear what you come up with!

Yeah, I think nearly everything about the Blue Lantern Corps and the non-Earth-based Blue Lanterns is great (I just wish there was more sex-and-gender balance), and some of choices were truly inspired. I like everything about Mother Mercy too, including the fact that we finally got a non-sexed character who does not get defaulted to masculine (even though the implicit rule only went from "Masculine unless obviously biologically female" to "Masculine unless obviously biologically female or technically sexless but dripping with womb imagery"). I like the idea of the Indigo Lanterns, although I'm uncomfortable with the noble savage imagery. I am still not on board with greed as an emotion, but if they had to go in that direction, Larfleeze was the right way to go in so many ways. I really appreciate the blood-vomiting imagery of the Red Lanterns. Besides, who could fail to like Dex-Star? Even the Star Sapphires have a lot of potential. Their problem is just that the guys at DC let their own issues with women and love get in the ( ... )

Unfortunately with the 12% female employment at DC dropped to 1 or 2% those issues aren't going to be fixed anytime soon. -sigh-

Can you believe how shocked some of the men acted when presented with the idea of that being a significant drop that women and fans of female characters had legitimate reasons to be concerned about?
