...where Methos shoots Duncan *before* he kills Sean.  ETA:  Or, you know, Sean just kicks Duncan in the *balls* when he grabs onto Sean's wrist.  I mean, Sean *knew* Duncan was mentally unstable, Duncan's pose is perfect for it, and you can't heal a man if you're dead

I think, at the time, it was the shock--Methos could believe that Duncan would actually do such a thing, until, y'know, he did it. But I could definitely see an AU where Methos was paranoid enough to anticipate it...
