I wish I could find the file with the backstory I'd worked out. I had a whole thing where Matthew picked him up off the field sometime during the Hundred Year's War, maybe after Agincourt. Because we already know that he's the type to adopt thieves and runaway slaves, so why not add a French archer to the list? (John insists that they were nowhere near London in 1666, and you can't prove otherwise.)

Oh, no. Thieves and runaway slave/vigilante. Really. Matthew's knack for law-breaking students is HILARIOUS to me. (And, I suspect, to him.)

I refuse to comment on 1666 but we'd better not be blaming him for Chicago is all I'm saying.
