Little black dresses of fandoms

I've been thinking about little black dresses of fandom while I sort out what I'm writing next. Partly I've been thinking not just about who are the LBDs but what makes them LBDs. To me, it seems to come down to two things:

1) They could turn up anywhere (and/or people come to them).
2) You can easily imagine them running into/talking to almost ( Read more... )

I don't know about LBD but Methos seems to insert himself into every plotbunny I have, often under a different identity and always reluctant to actually help the other characters (or at least pretends to be).

Oh, Methos was the second LBD in fandom. (And by that I mean Krycek started the term, ans not long after Methos was showing up everywhere and being called the same thing.) Thanks for the reminder!! Also? Good luck with your own crossovers!

Methos is definitely my LBD of fandom, though Jack Harkness could give him a good run for his money. Both of them would fit in pretty much *any* situation.

Methos has turned up in Torchwood, Dresden Files and Merlin so far and that's just what I've written! There are so many other universes where he has stuck his lovely nose in and made them more interesting by his presence.

Oh, yeah, Methos is definitely one! And Jack's become one. They both turn up anywhere and somehow, you aren't surprised! For that matter, Raine and I were saying that Harry Dresden is another you could see showing up anywhere now that he's a Warden.

See, I dunno about Dresden. Something would have to be going weird (or wyrd) for him to turn up. Same with the Winchester boys. I see them in a fic, I'm reaching for the salt to circle around me.

Methos is definitely my LBD of fandom. One of the things that helps him pop up in various fandoms is that he doesn't take over the action. He's a (not so) innocent bystander to all sorts of events. He certainly can be part of the plot but he's just as happy if he can pawn off all the action (and danger) on the local hero-type.

Oh, yeah. I'm still embarrassed that I forgot to put him on the list! ::snickering:: Let's be honest: Methos doesn't have to be the hero, but damn it, he wants to know what's going on!

Oh yes. He doesn't not want to be caught by surprise, so clearly he needs to know what's going on.

Plus, he can plausibly be an expert on pretty much any subject an author wants him to be.
