5. Highlander, the movie. Yes, most of the songs in that movie were written for it (and work amazingly well, too ( Read more... )

Watchmen did some great stuff with its music. Very in-your-face, at least in the beginning, but it worked.

::nodding:: Witchblade was also very blunt in some of their music choices.

Victor/Victoria: Watching Robert Preston and Julie Andrews doing You and Me can shake me out of pretty much any funk.

::laughing:: I was thinking that "Shady Dame from Seville" is another one of those classic uses, yes! I love that movie.

Yep, Shady Dame is also very good for defunking, but I just love the affection between those two in You and Me. And now you made me crave musicals so I dug out my copy of An American in Paris and am currently watching Gene Kelly charming a whole gaggle of french urchins.

Musicals! My favorite thing. My dad was the original fanboy...I grew up on movies. He's 87 now and has lived with me for the last 5 yrs...and I swear he'll live forever as long as the cable keeps working and I keep buying DVDs.

As for music, I have to also add Showboat w/ Grayson, Keel and Gardner with some beautiful songs, mmm. Or South Pacific, Music Man, Guys n' Dolls, Call Me Madam (I adore the duet that Merman & OConnor sings in that!) and a Xmas classic, White Christmas--*love*.

In a different direction, I so adored the soundtrack to Medicine Man that I bought it...some of the most gorgeous instrumental themes and pieces as background to the scenes. Ditto, strangely enough, with the new Star Trek movie...there's a couple of themes from that which are incredibly gorgeous and really add to the movie.

Oh, yeah, I seriously considered putting White Christmas in the list! Glad your dad's going strong, and congrats on all the writing you're doing lately!

Re (1) -- to say nothing of "Come and go with me to that land" while Scully's playing baseball, and "Walking in Memphis" for the kid of the freak show.
