I get the impression that they weren't always bickering for 1000 years, that it didn't get tedious and bad until the end. But I could be wrong.

I don't know - wasn't the Cassandra thing set towards the beginning of the horsemen?

I was always under the impression that it was toward the end when Methos was getting tired of the killing (and bickering). I don't think early years Methos would have been as kind to Cassandra. You could tell (to me) that when Methos told Kronos to divide his share of the spoils that this was not a behavior Kronos was used to seeing from Methos and he did not like it.

I think that emotionally that scene feels like the end, but I think there was something in the watchers' guide (which, alas, I do not own so I cannot verify), that said that Methos left the horsemen in the classical or early Roman period, so, a thousand years give or take after the bronze age.
I need to rewatch these eps to see if there's something else relating to the timeline.... (maybe *G*) I don't have them here...
