And I can see "Shape of My Heart" all the way through this piece. One of my all time favorites. Truly a keeper.

The Magnificent Seven episode "Love & Honor" established that Nathan and Ezra can both use swords (although Nathan's much better with them). No, there's no explanation of why Nathan's owner made him learn to use a sword. (Well, okay, to have a sparring partner, but, er, teaching a slave to fight really could have gotten the owner whipped or hung, so it never did make sense to me!)

His owner knew he would be immortal when he finally died, was a good enough guy and figured he could train him before it happened. But he never got the chance to tell Nathen about it?

I thought long and hard about that as a possible explanation, but decided I didn't want to bring pre-immortals into this fic. I also have a hard time seeing one of the seven outlive the others by that much. (But you're right; that seems like a reasonable explanation, given a Highlander crossover.)

I'm glad you got stubborn. Thanks for the explanatory notes at the end. As I said before, I only know one of the fandoms in use here (Highlander). Still, it made a lot of sense, and was a good, funny read.

So am I, honestly. I had to lean on it a lot, but it was fun to get to the end of it and go, 'Oh, cool, done!' Glad it made sense to someone who didn't know Mag7! Thank you for the lovely feedback and encouragement!
