At least, if you read my LJ regularly and it hasn't chased you away yet, this probably will cheer you up: Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) promises to legalize gay marriage. A thousand thanks to Irishkate for linking to this in the first place!

We're getting there, one nation at a time. But at this rate, the good old USA will be the last hold out. Sad.

Yeah. We do seem to be taking two steps back, one step forward these last few years. Oh, well. We'll still get there. I just wish it were sooner.

I don't see why people object to gay/lesbian marriage. I mean, everyone should have equal rights when it comes to getting screwed over. (Sorry of it seems a bit jaded, but I've seen too many marriages go boom! for optimism.)

...and on an unrelated note, where does the lovely quote on your icon come from? I love it! I'd like to put it on a shirt... :D

Well, speaking as someone happily married for sixteen or twenty years (depending on whether we're speaking formally or not so), I agree: everyone should be able to get married to the partner of their choice.

And the quote is from Lois McMaster Bujold's book "A Civil Campaign." Advice from Aral Vorkosigan (who had to outlive a great many scandals) to his son, Miles. Glad you like it!

I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't trust Bertie even as far as I could throw him.

Really? Damn. ::sighs:: Okay, I'll add it to my list of (possibly pipe-)dreams and not hold my breath. Thanks for telling me, Fi.

Trust him? No. Intend to see this gets through? Yes. He's a politician. And as such totally untrustworthy. But there was no need for them to say this unless they do intend to follow through.

Lets just say I'm hopeful.

I can honestly say it was my pleasure to link to it. I would be so proud of us if we pull this off in the short term (within the next 3-5 years as promised)
....Of course it does depend no the government not collapsing over Berties doubious financial arrangements with his ex-lover and friends....

::nodding:: I can hope, anyway. Now, if my country would ever follow suit...
