The next Escapade panel write-up

Mar 07, 2006 22:47

This was the idea that turned into a viewing paradigm for me. (Only for a little while, fortunately -- I don't like seeing everything through one prism; I lose too many necessary subtleties that way.) It's a long post/write-up, however, so have a cut tag: ( Read more... )

This offers some very nice perspective on fandom. I recall a time when I was reading just about anything in the LOTR fandom that I could find, including things that, in retrospect, I find distasteful. Some of it could be considered exploration and some of it was escapism from some bad things happening in my life at the time ( ... )

::nodding:: I'd say negotiation is a sub-heading of the characters going through places they'd rather not go.

Glad you're finding good writing now, and congrats on going to a therapist to help you through the bad times. A good therapist is worth their weight in blood rubies as far as I'm concerned.

Last year I read most of Seventh Dimension's archive, and then any author's site I could access from there. Read a lot of stories. Some were dreadful in one way or another, and others were marvelous in one way or another, and some just weren't my personal cuppa even if they were written well, or from the perspective of a character I liked. I always end up in Love, Blood & Rhetoric, and the Eyrie, because even the stories that are stronger than I am compel me to keep reading them. Maybe they'll help me grow up?

Isn't growing up overrated? And yeah, I can remember being early in XF and reading a *lot* of Gossamer, the good and the bad, and reading a lot of HL fic, some of which was much better than others. ::grin:: Enthusiasm is a wonderful thing.

Fascinating treatise on addiction vs satisfaction in itself! Really got me thinking about all sorts of things (the least of which being fanfic LOL) Guess it explains why I only have good quality chocolate now. By the way, how did you enjoy the stuff I sent over? I sent a range for comparison purposes so I am intrigued as to how they rated! (Assuming you can remember back that far, of course!)

::nodding:: I only do good quality chocolate now, and the stuff you sent was lovely -- did I not say? ::winces:: Thank you, thank you!

As to the panel, yes, it was interesting. One of those 'everywhere I looked' things. {{hugs}}
