So, here's how it works. Name a character from one of the fandoms listed below. I will produce no fewer than something close to 100 words on why I love that character. (I'm not putting them into a word file to check the count, sorry.)

BUT! There's a price. You must produce no fewer than something close to 100 words on why you ( Read more... )

Tell me, do you love Spock?

Yes, actually. He cares so much, even when he's trying not to, and he cares about things as well as people -- a well-researched and -explained report, accurate measurements of a newly charted solar system, the people he works with every day. Not only does Spock care, he cares because of what things/people are, not how they try to appear. He's a man who'd find a flawed diamond interesting for the qualities of the flaw and, simultaneously, its different range of uses/abilities than an unflawed diamond. Hmm. Yeah. The acceptance of difference, and the delight in the way differences show up.... I definitely love Spock. ::g::

Ok-just for the halibut, I pings "Chronicles of Amber" and your character is Llewella.

Llewella is competent in her own range of abilities (archery, diplomacy, dancing, swimming) but feels no need to be queen of Amber or heir to Rebma, and I really admire that. In her family, aspirations to the throne, or manipulations behind the throne, are almost expected traits and she could care less. That's not her game, and if they don't like it, tough. She'll help Random or Moire entertain guests, and wants the family to present itself well (especially in front of trade partners and rivals) but I don't get the sense that she ever took sides while her brothers were maneuvering for the throne. However, that wasn't because she couldn't be of assistance. She just went her own way, in her own time, without completely cutting herself off from the family but without letting them control her. I have to respect that, and I do.

::laughing:: Here, please, so I can see which character you chose, and then I'll wander over to your LJ if you play in this meme and we can tag each other again in another?

Carroll Todd? Good Lord, what's not to love about the man? "I don't believe in shame, I believe in happiness!" Tolerant past belief (that *boyfriend* of his! ::rolling eyes::), willing to love all sorts of things as they are and have fun with life, and fun with society, and help other people have fun, too -- a darling man with a glorious voice, an awareness of the new limits age is putting on him and the known limits his taste in lovers has gifted him, and the ability to go on and be happy anyway. He's a wonderful role model. What a lovely character to ask me about -- thanks so much!

This is so much fun. I first wanted to choose Andre Cassel but that came down to John Rhys Davies being a brilliant actor and me never having managed to figure out if Andre knew that Count Grezhinski was actually a woman or not. So I'm taking Norma Cassidy.

I love Norma for the way she never holds back anything she thinks or feels. You look at her and you know exactly what’s going on with her at the moment. I love her for knowing what she wants and then setting out to get it. I love her for trying to flirt with Toddy because that scene makes me grin like mad every time and that scene when King washes her mouth out with soap and she goes after him with a halberd because he so had that coming. I love Norma because she’s so over the top that she makes the other characters seem not normal, but like people that could really have existed, when in reality I don’t think they’d have ever could.

::laughing:: Andre's not there enough to make that much impression, no, although John Rhys-Davies did a lovely job. I still love the world's greatest contortionist being brought low by a high note in Andre's outer office. Always wondered how close the barber came to snipping in the wrong place at that crash.

::laughing:: Norma *is* gloriously OTT, isn't she? I adore the discussion s between her and Toddy, too!

N: "I could never give up men!"
T: "You took the words right out of my mouth."
N: "I bet the right woman could change your mind."
T: "I bet the right woman could change *yours*."

::giggling:: Can you just imagine those two out on the town chasing men together and divvying up the prey?

Oh, Connor. ::smiling:: Twist my arm, hmm? gryphonrhi November 16 2005, 20:26:57 UTC
::smiling:: Connor? Sharp-edged and sharp-eyed, sharp-tongued and cutting sharper deals: the kind of trader who leaves you counting your change, and your jewelry, and then your digits. Fiercely loyal to his own and gods help you if you're not his and you cross him. Changeable as the color of his eyes to an outward glance, but running deep and true from the center, which shapes all the outward seemings, until gun-runner and patriot are so clearly different sides of one coin, and lover and fighter even more so. Shaped by his own values and not letting any one place, one time, or one person dictate those past what his own sense tells him is right -- even when it hurts like hell. It's his razor, not Ockham's, and if it cuts him, too, at times, that's only proof that it's sharp, not reason to be rid of it ( ... )

*wriggles with happiness*

Wow, that was great. You are making me want to write a CM/MM sequel right now, and if I ever do, I'm going to print this description out and put it up next to my computer for inspiration and guidance.

I'll have to give a little thought to my response. *g*

::smiling:: Hey, I am *always* happy to help with something like that, but no, really -- I could talk about Connor all day. {{{hugs}}} Good luck with all the madness going on in your life right now!

Oh my. How fun. Okay...I know this is going to shock you ~~ how about Methos?

Reply

gryphonrhi November 17 2005, 02:51:26 UTC
The amazing thing about Methos is just how human he is. Not even that he's still 'just a guy' but that he likes being just a guy. He's not perfect and doesn't want to be. He gets inspired, upset, angry, easily amused. He pulls off plans, sits around and has a drink (with or without friends), goes after a goal and wins, or tries and screws up -- five thousand years of experience and he can still be surprised, and, amazingly, he likes it that way. ::g:: Well. Most of the time.

(And then, at times, Joe's right: one manipulative son of a bitch. And he doesn't mind being that, either.)
